Durwood Thomas Watkins Sr.

Durwood Thomas Watkins, Sr., 88, a resident of Oakridge Avenue, died Friday, January 21, 2022, at Granville Medical Center. Born in Vance County on June 21, 1933, he was the son of the late Robert Almon Watkins and Louise Fuller Watkins. He was retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company where he was a buyer and was a member of Fuller Chapel Christian Church. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 28, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Fuller Chapel Christian Church by the Rev. Tammy Ayscue. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall. He is survived by his wife, Clarice Coghill Watkins of the home; one daughter, Sharon W. Clark of Henderson; and one granddaughter, Chastity N. Clark of Orlando, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Michelle Leigh Watkins; one son and daughter-in-law, Durwood T. “Tommy” Watkins, Jr. and Cheryl Vaughn Watkins; two sisters, Betsy W. Simpson and Rose W. Champion; and two brothers, Robert Almon Watkins, Jr. and Jack Watkins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fuller Chapel Christian Church, c/o Susan Floyd, 1470 N.
