Durwood Edward Wells

KITTRELL- Durwood Edward Wells, 94, of Bobbitt Road, died Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Franklin Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born December 2, 1929 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Clellie Hedgepeth Wells and Edward Everett Wells and was the widower of Earlene Smith Wells. Durwood retired from Lauren’s Glass Company where he worked as plant manager. He also retired from the Army National Guard with the rank of Captain. Durwood was also a member of Union Chapel Church of Kittrell where he served as a Deacon and Chairman of numerous committees. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 22, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. at Union Chapel Church of Kittrell by Rev. Radford Frazier. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Durwood is survived by his daughter, Karen Wells Bobbitt and husband, Norman of Kittrell; five grandchildren, Ashley Camp, Brian Camp {Jessica} Lindsey Bobbitt, Taylor Lassiter {Bryan} and Robert Bobbitt; and eight great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Tant, Kaden Camp, Vayda Collins, Avril Collins, Brenae Camp, Madelyn Bobbitt, Henry D. Bobbitt and Lane Scott Lassiter. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Jean Camp and a brother, Charles Allen Wells. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at Union Chapel Church. Serving as active pallbearers will be Norman Bobbitt, Robert Bobbitt, Bryan Lassiter, Brian Camp, Lex Speal and Rusty Smith. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Union Chapel Church of Kittrell’s Methodist Men.
