HENDERSON-Edwin Lewis Bowen, Jr., age 64, a resident of 705 Gun Club Road, died Friday, May 27, 2016, at Duke University Hospital.Born in Vance County on February 20, 1952, he was the son of Allie Leigh Slaughter Bowen of Henderson and the late Edwin Lewis Bowen, Sr.
Ed was retired from Laurens Glass Plant and was a self-employed carpenter.He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and the Henderson Moose Lodge.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 pm at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Henry Abbott.Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Alma Currin Bowen of the home; one son Edwin Lewis Bowen, III of Henderson; brothers, Wesley Davis Bowen and Patrick Scott Bowen of Henderson, and sisters, Barbara Nelson of Bracey, VA and Joy Francis of Henderson.In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Betsy Strickland; and one brother, Herbert Clay Bowen.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home of Phil and Evelyn Chappell at 85 Freedom Lane, Henderson.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Al Strickland, Norwood Baker, Robert Jackson, Joe Currin, Joe Pendergrass, and Billy Lawson, Jr.
