HENDERSON-Effie Ellington Brewer, age 98, a former resident of Coble Blvd., died Sunday, May 12, 2013, in a local nursing home.Born on August 6, 1914 in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Nollie Mack Ellington and Addie Jackson Ellington.Mrs. Brewer was a homemaker and a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church and the Adult Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Townsville by the Rev. Gary Brummitt and the Rev. Kathryn Johnson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by four daughters, Allyne B. Greene of South Hill, Virginia, Jane B. Wright and husband, Billy of Henderson, Rose B. Moody and husband, John of Clarksville, VA., and Maxine B. McKinney and husband, Roger of Bakersville, NC; one sister Mabel Wortham of Henderson; nine grandchildren, Michael Greene, Susan Harris, Lisa Bevell, Teresa Peeden, Cheryl Gazaleh, Mark Moody, Gerald Moody, Cale Moody, and Steve McKinney;and twelve great grandchildren, Scott Greene, Stephanie Hankley, Brandon Harris, David Harris, Jake Harris, Bryan Bevell, Heather Kretzschmar, Will Peeden, Kaitlyn Moody, Seth Moody, Sophie McKinney, and Dylan McKinney.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thornton Riggan Brewer; three sisters; three brothers; grandson, Jeff McKinney; and son-in-law, John Bill Greene.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at J. M. White Funeral home.At other times they will be at the home of Rose and John Moody at 25 Pondarosa Lane, Clarksville, Va.
Serving as active pall bearers will be her grandsons, Michael Greene, Mark Moody, Gerald Moody, Cale Moody, Steve McKinney, Will Peeden, and Nick Gazaleh.
