HENDERSON- Elaine Harris Cannady, 77, of Henderson, NC, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 2, 2026. Born on March 21, 1949, she was the beloved daughter of Gertrude and L. Thomas Harris. Elaine was the devoted wife of John F. Cannady III, and throughout her life she was cherished by family and friends for her warmth, grace, and joyful spirit. A graduate of King’s College in Raleigh, she went on to serve the State of North Carolina and later worked with First Citizens Bank in Henderson.
Her faith was a guiding light. Elaine was a member of First Baptist Church in Henderson, where she especially loved her time in the Dee Dee Wester Sunday School class. She previously worshipped at First Congregational Christian Church in Henderson, singing in the choir for many years and sharing her gift of music by playing the piano during services. Elaine had a deep appreciation for beauty, history, and tradition. She was a former member of the Maria Parham Hospital Guild and delighted in antique shopping - especially anything inspired by Colonial Williamsburg. Her home and her beloved English garden reflected her love of 18th century design, and she found joy in creating spaces filled with charm and character.
A loyal NC State fan, Elaine cheered enthusiastically - win or lose. She embraced life fully and found happiness in everyday moments. Above all, she loved her family. She treasured hearing her grandsons’ stories about soccer, sports, and college adventures, and she cherished every holiday and family gathering. Elaine also had a passion for travel and loved watching the programs on the Explorer Channel.
Elaine’s faith was the foundation of her life. She believed deeply in God’s presence and lived each day with kindness, loyalty, and love for those around her.
