WARRENTON- Mrs. Elizabeth Garner McGhee King, 89, of 101 N. Ridgecrest Drive, died Sunday, April 15, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loved ones.Born in Wake County on October 17, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Roy Judson Garner and Evelyn Jones Garner and was the widow of Fred O. McGhee, Sr. and James Howard King.She was a graduate of Vance Granville Community College with a degree in nursing.She was a retired nurse having worked for both Harriett and Henderson Yarns, Inc. and Dr. Randolph D. Mills for over forty years.Elizabeth was a longtime member of First Congregational Christian Church (427 Rowland Street, Henderson), where funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 11 am by Dr. William Pyle and Rev. George Williams.Burial will follow in the Gillburg United Methodist Church Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Mishew M. Gardner and husband, Walter M. Gardner, Jr. of Warrenton; six grandchildren, Danny Wilkerson and wife Sandra, Karen Wilkerson, Gray Wilkerson, Robin Parrott, Kelly Blackmon and husband, Michael, and Brian Gardner and wife, Cindy; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two step-children, Rosalind Wilkerson and Fred O. McGhee, Jr.; and her brother, Royal T. Garner.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 pm till 8 pm at J.M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home of Mishew and Walter Gardner at 318 S. Main Street, Warrenton.
Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Wilkerson, Gray Wilkerson, Brian Gardner, Michael Blackmon, Reece Wilkerson, Frank Fleming, Dr. Rodwell Drake, and Joel Bartholomew.
The family would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers, Vonnie Burgess, Grace Clayton and Jennifer Fuller, as well as Dr. Rodwell Drake and the staff at Community Home Care and Hospice, Maria Parham Health 4th floor PCU staff, and the Maria Parham Health Out Patients Unit.
