Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Newman Harris, 87, a resident of the Cokesbury Community, died Sunday, October 16, 2022 at Maria Parham Health. Born on March 11, 1935 in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Sinclair Newman and Lois Hamm Newman, and was the widow of Norman George Harris, Sr. Libby was the owner and operator of the former Libby’s Children Shop. She was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church for 70 years where she was a past Chairman of the Board and active in many other church activities. She was also an active volunteer for many years with the Cokesbury Volunteer Fire Department, and was formerly employed at Moody’s Brothers Jewelry Store. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Cokesbury United Methodist Church by Pastor Sean Kavanagh and Rev. Matt Evans. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall at Cokesbury United Methodist Church. She is survived by one son, Norman George Harris, Jr. and wife Debbie of High Point; two grandchildren, Jennifer Jones (Bryan) and Susan Fletcher (Michael); four great grandchildren, Olivia Jones, Harris Jones, Lakyn Fletcher, and Reese Fletcher; and one brother, Raymond Newman (Elke) of Wilmington. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ball; and two brothers, Tommie Newman and Arthur Sinclair Newman, Jr. Serving as active pall bearers will be Mike Coghill, Phil Walters, Jimmie Walters, Harris Jones, Jerry Ball, Brian Ball, Sonny Newman, and Robert Newman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church for Martha’s Ministry c/o Ruth Moss, 1705 Allison-Cooper Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
