.HENDERSON-US Navy Reserve (Ret.) CAPT Emory Winfield Taylor, 85, a resident of Oak Street, died Saturday, August 3, 2024 at UNC Rex Health. Born on November 21, 1938 in Vance County, he was the son of the late George Franklin Taylor and Tessie Jackson Taylor. Emory graduated from Henderson High School in 1957, and The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1961. He was commissioned in the US Navy by The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill NROTC. He was the owner and operatorof Tarmac Educational Services, a member of First Baptist Church and served on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 1:00 PM at FirstBaptist Church, Henderson, by Dr. Ronald S. Cava. A private burial will be held at Sunset Gardens. He is survived by his wife, Faye White Taylor of the home; one son, Gregory Winfield Taylor and daughter-in-law Kathy Rogers Taylor of Henderson; one daughter, Patricia Taylor Hanley of Raleigh; former son-in-law, COL (Ret.) Robert Michael Hanley of Fayetteville; two grandsons, CPT Jackson Grant Hanley and fiancée, Hannah Louise Griggs of Georgia, and Samuel Taylor Hanley of Concord; two nephews, David Franklin Taylor and Christopher Douglas Taylor; one niece, Merri Taylor Martinez. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, George Franklin Taylor, Jr. Emory lived his life in service – to the US Navy, to the First Baptist Church, and to the Salvation Army. He enjoyed music, talking at length on any subject, reading, and his cats. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church.
