Ernest W. Brackins

d. February 6, 2017

Ernest W. Brackins, 98, 136 Sunset Circle, Henderson, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, February 06, 2017.
Born to the late Floyd and Ellen Brackins, he was raised in the mountains of Alleghany County, NC along with 10 brothers and sisters. He grew up during the depression and only went as far as the 4th grade. What he may have lacked in formal education, he more than made up for in raw talent in carpentry work and in his spiritual life.He was married to the love of his life, Ina Grace Stamper Brackins for 32 years.
Since Pop was born in 1918, most folks commented on how well he lived to be 98 years old.Everyone always marveled at all of the history that he had seen in his lifetime and enjoyed hearing him speak about those events from his living perspective. In his retirement, he enjoyed being outdoors, his family, especially the grandkids and his bountiful garden each year.
Ernest was a talented carpenter and worked for contractors in Maryland as well as working and retiring from the federal government at the MCAS Cherry Point.Ernest gave his life to the Lord at an early age and responded to the call of ministry. He had 70 years in the pulpit preaching the gospel in many states.
Survivors include his 2 sons, Philip (Sharon) Brackins of Henderson, and Christopher (Mary Ann) Brackins of Pinnacle; 9 grandchildren, Joshua Brackins, Amanda (Jake) Twisdale, Matthew Brackins, Christina Brackins, Hazen Brackins, Martin Chadwick, B. Quick (Kathryn) Chadwick, Bethany Golden and Bryan Phipps, 7 great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by all 10 siblings, his wife, Ina Grace Stamper Brackins, daughter, Elsie Joyce Chadwick Brackins and son, William Kemp Brackins.
A special thank you to the dedicated and caring medical professionals that assisted Pop on his journey home and especially Doug Wortham, Dawn Thompson and Laurie Harp.
