BOLOVIA-Ernest Vernon "Bucky" Pate, Jr., 78, died Sunday, November 5, 2017. Bucky was born in Winston-Salem, NC, on June 30, 1939, to the late Ernest V. Pate, Sr. and Ellen Wells Pate. He was a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, VA., and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Bucky founded Typography Studio, Inc., and raised his family in Winston-Salem, NC. After his retirement, he moved to Holden Beach, NC where his focus became civic interests including the Holden Beach Merchants Association, Shallotte River Sail and Power Squadron, Holden Beach Chapel and supporting the Brunswick Community College Foundation.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Frazier Pate of the home; his children Lorrie Pate of Morrisville, NC, and Greg Pate of Raleigh, NC; his sister, Linda Rowe and husband, Roy of Lexington, NC. Also surviving are two stepsons, Sam Catlett and wife, Christine of Wilmington, NC, and their children, Dylan and Marley Catlett, and Steve Catlett and wife, Melissa of Southport, NC, and their children, Emma Catlett and Camden Jones.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11 am at the Holden Beach Chapel.
