HENDERSON-Eugene Thomas Murphy, Sr., 91, a resident of 546 Sagefield Drive, died Sunday, July 23, 2017, in a local nursing home.Born in Vance County on March 9, 1926, he was the son of the late Sam Croman Murphy and Pearl Burnett Murphy.
Mr. Murphy was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II, and was retired from the former Henderson Fiber Company.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2 pm at Sunset Gardens by Pastor Ralph McGowan.
He is survived by his wife, Susie Wilson Murphy of the home; and one son, Eugene Thomas E.T. Murphy, Jr. of Knightdale.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Linda Lillie Murphy; four sisters, Zuma M. Lowry, Ruth Murphy, Hazel Murphy, and Lillie M. Crocker; three brothers, Elmo Murphy, Sam Murphy, and Kent Murphy.
The family will receive friends following the service at Sunset Gardens.At other times they will be at the home on Sagefield Drive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church, 619 Dabney Drive, Henderson, NC27536.
The family would like to thank Dr. David Mack, his entire staff, Cora Fields, and the staff at Senior Citizens Nursing Home for the loving and compassionate care given to Eugene.
