Eugene Ray Holland, age 86, a resident of Deer Crossing Court, died Sunday, December 29, 2013, at Trinity Place Nursing Home in Albemarle, NC.Born on November 24, 1927 in Edgecombe County, he was the son of the late Archibald Staton Holland and Lucy Smith Holland.Eugene was a Veteran of the U. S. Navy of which he was most proud.He was a retired Cable Foreman for the former Carolina Telephone & Telegraph Co., and was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church where he served as Treasurer, Junior Warden, Senior Warden, and Vestry Member.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at 1 pm at St. Johns Episcopal Church by The Rev. Donald A. Lowery.Burial will follow in Norwood, NC.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Rawls Holland of the home and Norwood; one daughter, Gene Holland Hinson and husband Don; two grandchildren, Matthew Gene Hinson and wife Lisa and Elizabeth Faye Hinson and fianc, Kyle Pope; one nephew, David Pulley; and special family member Julie Breedlove Kelly and husband, Kevin and their children, Colin and Jennifer.He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Holland Pulley and Patricia Ann Holland; and one brother, Charles Edward Holland.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Wednesday in the Parish House at St. Johns Episcopal Church.
