DURHAM- Evelyn Brantly Garrett, 75, of Cheswick Place, passed away June 8, 2025, peacefully at home with her loving family. Born February 19, 1950 in Winchester, VA, she was the daughter of the late Perdita Arnett Brantly and Edgar Clayton Brantly, II, MD. Evelyn was a devoted wife and friend. She cared for her community and loved animals. She studied Culinary Arts while in Paris, France which led her to her passion of cooking. At the age of eight, Evelyn moved with her family from Durham, NC to Odessa, TX. Evelyn graduated high school at St. Stephens Episcopal School in Austin, TX. She received her Batchelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduation from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she returned to Texas and became an investment banker in Dallas for many years. After her father died, she returned to Durham, NC in 1983. She then met her husband whom she was married to for 35 years. A graveside memorial service will be held Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 2:00 PM by Rev. Radford Frazier at Union Chapel Church of Kittrell, 6535 Raleigh Road, Kittrell, NC 27544. Mrs. Garrett is survived by her loving husband John Hartwell Garrett, stepdaughter Kelly Pegram (Patrick) and her niece Ann Brantly (Daniel). She leaves behind her step-granddaughters Hannah Doisey (Christian) and Noel Pegram along with her cousins and her special friends that she held dear to her heart. She is also survived by her faithful fur companion, Gigi. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of Union Chapel Church of Kittrell.
