HENDERSON-Evelyne Hughes Jones Hester, age 84, beloved mother, grandmother, wife, and caregiver, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at Maria Parham Medical Center.Born in Vance County on December 28, 1926, she was the daughter of the late George Badger Hughes and Maude Mills Hughes.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Carnie E. Jones.
She was a member of North Henderson Baptist Church and also attended Flat Rock United Methodist Church.She was a member of the Woodland Garden Club, and was a volunteer for the Henderson Appearance Committee, Maria Parham Hospital, Meals On Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, and has been recognized on numerous occasions for her volunteer services to the community.
A service in memory and celebration of her life will be held Saturday at 1:00 pm at North Henderson Baptist Church by the Revs Brent Kasey and Pam Gilliam.Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas S. Hester, Sr.; two daughters, Shirley J. Holt of Emerald Isle and Sylvia T. Haley of Greensboro; three grandchildren, Lisa Hunt, Brett Taylor, Cahl Holt; seven great grandchildren, John Wall, Jacob Wall, Kelsey Holt, Caleb Holt, Riley Holt, Curren Holt; and Noah Taylor; two step-daughters, Debbie Good of Raleigh and Cynthia Rodger of Umatilla, Florida; one step-son, Thomas S. Hester, Jr. of Henderson; four step-grandchildren; and two step-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home at 229 Kerr Lake Club Road.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to North Henderson Baptist Church Missions Fund, 1211 N. Garnett Street, Henderson, NC, 27536 or to Flat Rock United Methodist Church, c/o Jennie Parrott, 1380 Horseshoe Bend Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
