HENDERSON- Fay Matthews Wilkerson, 93, of Pollyanna Road passed away peacefully Thursday, October 31, 2024. Born November 18, 1930 in Durham County, she was the daughter of the late Elba Spain Matthews and Malcolm Washington “Mike” Matthews. She married Wallace C. Wilkerson on December 24, 1948 and was married for 61 years until his death on July 25, 2009. She and her husband worked together as the owners and operators of a cleaning service. If you ever met Fay, you would remember her sense of humor, her laughter, and her love for the Lord. And her saying was, “I love you and don’t you forget it.” She never met a stranger. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 4, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Rock Spring Baptist Church by Rev. Gary Brummitt. Entombment will follow at Sunset Gardens. Fay is survived by two daughters, Linda W. Fitzgerald (Tom) of Townsville and Deborah W. Saunders of Torreveija, Spain; her sister and best friend, Cramer M. Laws of Oxford; two grandsons, and Adam Holt, Brian Watson (Stephanie); a granddaughter, Jamie Behrendt (Stefan); five great grandchildren, Jordan Watson, Logan Blake, Jacob Watson, Trevor Holt, Mallory Holt; and six great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Fay was preceded in death by two sisters, Jewel M. McKay and Rachel M. Browning; and her son-in-law, Jimmy Holt. The family would like to give special thanks to the caring staff at Franklin Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The family will receive friends prior to the service at Rock Spring Baptist Church from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Rock Spring Baptist Church.
