Frances Lewis Brewer

HENDERSON- Mrs. Frances Lewis Brewer, age 74, a resident of 1755 Poplar Creek Road, Henderson, died Monday, November 10, 2014 at Duke University Medical Center.Born in Danville, VA on July 12, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Lewis and Evelyn Gourley Lewis.She retired from Vance Granville Community College where she was a math teacher.She also formerly taught at John Graham High School in Warrenton.She was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church, where she served as treasurer, chair of the social committee, formerly as choir director and was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class.Mrs. Brewer enjoyed sewing for people as well as making biscuits for her family and church.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at Poplar Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Tony Evans, Rev. John Yount and Dr. Steve Kinnard.Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Brewer is survived by her husband, Amos C. Brewer of the home; two daughters, Sreda Riley and husband John of Mechanicsville, VA and Chippy Leigh Kinnard and husband Steve of New City, New York; a son, Chris Brewer and wife Lisa of Henderson; six grandchildren, Shane Riley, Austin Riley, Taylor Riley, Tyler Brewer, Chelsea Novack and husband Rob, and Daniel Kinnard; a brother, William Herbert Lewis, Jr. and wife Mary Gilbert Lewis of Madison, NC; and a sister-in-law, Alice Jean Harris of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends following the service on Thursday in the fellowship hall of Poplar Creek Baptist Church.At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as pall bearers will be Shane Riley, Tyler Brewer, Daniel Kinnard, John Owens, Ryan Hutson, Kay Stark, Dan Blackwell, Charles Pleasants, Barry Frank, E.B. Harris, Tommy Johnson, Joel Harris, Jimmy Nutt and Randy Ball.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Poplar Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 1370 Poplar Creek Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
