Fred Avon Bowes, 88, a resident of Raleigh Road, died Thursday, September 1, 2022 in a local nursing home. Born in Franklin County on May 9, 1934, he was the son of the late Zack Bowes and Mary Fannie Duncan Bowes, and was the widower of Loretta Jensen Bowes. Fred was a Veteran of the United States Army and was a retired manager from the former Harriett & Henderson Yarns, Inc. To honor his wishes, no services will be held. He is survived by two daughters, Ava Slater of Henderson and Susan Proctor of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Wendy Morales, Fred Michael Bowes, Crystal Bowes, Sandy Martinez, Kelly Smith, and Deanna Campos, and a number of great-grandchildren, In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Freddy Bowes and one granddaughter, April Bowes. The family has requested that memorials be made to the Autism Society of North Carolina, 5121 Kingdom Way – Suite 100, Raleigh, NC 27607.
