HENDERSON-Garnette Tatum Wood, age 71, a resident of 713 E. Montgomery Street, died Tuesday, November 01, 2016, in a local nursing home.Born on November 25, 1944 in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Harry Tatum and Dorothy Baker Tatum.Garnette was retired from the Vance-Granville Health Department and was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church. She was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed crafts, music and spending time at the beach.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 am in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Reverends Doug Addington, Julia Alliger, and Tammy Ayscue.Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by her husband, Darrel Wood of the home; one daughter, Shelly E. Wood of the home; one son, Barry N. Wood and wife, Michelle H. Wood of Henderson; one granddaughter, Samantha Michelle Boyd; two great grandchildren, Chloe Boyd and Jackson Boyd; one brother, E. A. Tatum of Asheville; one sister, Judy T. Haynes of Pilot Mountain; and her four pets, Luke, Daisy, Charley, and Cheeto.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Johnnie Tatum.
The family will receive Wednesday night from 7 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Jason Tatum, Jamie Gupton, Danny Reep, Wayne Renn, Cam Humphries, and Don Sykes.
