George Clayton Allen, Jr.

HENDERSON- George Clayton Allen, Jr., 84, of Beechwood Trail, died Friday, December 3, 2021 at his home. Born July 25, 1937 in Guilford County, he was the son of the late George Clayton Allen and Emma Buckner Allen. Upon graduation from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, MD, George attended Elon College on a baseball scholarship and then attended UNC Chapel Hill where he earned his Masters Degree in education. He was retired from the Vance and Granville County School Systems where he worked as a principal. He was a member of First United Methodist Church Henderson and a former member of both the Henderson Optimist Club and Henderson Jaycees. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 9, 2021, at 2 p.m.at First United Methodist Church by Rev. George Loveland. Entombment will follow at Sunset Gardens. George is survived by his wife, Ferebee Abbott Allen of the home; his son, George Clayton “Clay” Allen, III and wife, Ellen of Charleston, SC; his granddaughter, Margaret Abigail Allen; two sisters, Judy Allen of Burlington and Martha A. Jones of Lynchburg, VA. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 at J.M. White Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be John Hampton, Johnny Almand, William F. Jones, John Abbott, Blake Montgomery and Dale Vaughan. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice, 946 West Andrews Ave. Suite S., Henderson, NC 27536.
