HENDERSON- George Herbert Norwood, age 82, a resident of Williamsboro, died Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Maria Parham Medical Center.Born on February 4, 1932 in Vance County he was the son of the late James Andrew Norwood and Lonie Proctor Norwood.He was retired from the Coca Cola Bottling Company of Henderson and Durham where he was employed for 41 years.He was a member of Island Creek Baptist Church and the G.W. Norwood Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday November 12, 2014 at Island Creek Baptist Church at 1:00 PM by Rev. Marshall Neathery.Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Jane O. Norwood of the home; two sons, George Anthony Norwood and wife Betty of Henderson and Danny Joe Norwood and wife Angie of Oxford; a daughter, Katherine Norwood Williams and husband Kenny of Oxford; six grandchildren, Beth Haithcock and husband Chad; Amanda Norwood, Nora Irving, Stephanie Stokes and husband Jason, Kelli Rose Williams, and Ken Norwood Williams; three great grandchildren, Austin Haithcock, Avery Haithcock and Brody Stokes; and a sister, Ruth Gertrude Coleman of Gum Springs, Virginia.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ben Alexander Norwood, William Andrew Norwood, and James Scott Norwood; and five sisters, Alice Virginia Hope, Florence Leigh Neathery, Sallie Mae Wynn, Mary Frances Neathery, and Annie Maude Elliott.
The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of Island Creek Baptist Church.At other times they will be at the home, 8480 NC Hwy 39 North, Williamsboro.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Arthur Ray Paynter, Junior Manning, Lawrence Elliott, John Hope, Gene Norwood, and Allen Rivers.
Honorary pall bearers will be members of the G.W. Norwood Sunday School Class.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Island Creek Baptist Church, C/O Margaret Morgan 950 Stagecoach Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
