HENDERSON- George Lee Pegram, 92, of Ruin Creek Road, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 3, 2026. Born July 12, 1933 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Lillie Dickerson Pegram and Carl Alexander Pegram. George was co-owner and operator of P & P Builders, along with his business partner, brother-in-law and lifelong friend, Wayne Pearce, who preceded him in death. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, an expert craftsman, avid fisherman and a New York Yankees fan. He was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church where a memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. conducted by Darrell Mullinix.
George is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary Elizabeth Newman Pegram of the home; two daughters, Jane P. Haithcock and husband, Tommy of Henderson and Lisa P. Simmons and husband, Steve of Henderson; a son, Alan Pegram and wife, Audrey of Stem; three grandchildren, Lexi Simmons, Alex Burnette and wife, Selena and Nick Burnette and fiancé, Ashley; a sister, Lois P. O’Geary of Henderson, a brother, Asa Pegram of Henderson; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel P. Branch; and six brothers, David Pegram, Carl Pegram, Jesse Pegram, Coy Pegram, Thomas Pegram and Hill Pegram.
The family wants to give special thanks to Kristi Montgomery, Jessica Oakley and Crystal Hash of Gentiva Hospice for their loving care and to Beverly Key for her support and guidance.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Wednesday beginning at 1:00 P.M. in the fellowship hall of Poplar Creek Baptist Church.
