Geraldine Alice Jackson Perry passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, September 17, 2017 in Jacksonville, Florida, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Richmond, Virginia, June 19, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Edward Allen Jackson and Estelle OBrien Jackson. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Vernon Perry; her daughter Althea Jackson Perry at age 2; her brother, Charles Edward Jackson, her sister, Christine Jackson Rowland;her son-in-law, Larry Lassiter; and infant great-granddaughter, Abigail Hope Sullivan. She is survived by three daughters, Jerry P. Chappell (Bruce) of Jacksonville, Florida, Pamela P. MacNeill (John) of Charlotte, and Krista P. Lassiter of Wilson. She was lovingly known as Gran by her nine grandchildren, Bruce A. Chappell, Jr. (Christine) of Wilmington, NC, Cameron Perry Chappell Walker (Craig), and Albert Perry Chappell (Marlene) of Jacksonville, Florida, Matthew Perry MacNeill (Christine), Claire MacNeill Belles (Matt), and Elizabeth MacNeill Ross (Todd) of Charlotte; Jay Lassiter (Ginger) of Raleigh, Amanda Lassiter Sullivan (Wayne) and Paige Lassiter Hill (Wes) of Wilson. She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Oxford High School in 1935 and from Richmond Business College, Richmond, Virginia, in 1936. She then moved to Henderson with her family and lived there for 64 years.In 1939 she married A. Vernon Perry and was married to him for 34 years until his sudden death in 1973. An active life long member of First Baptist Church in Henderson, and Wilson where she taught Sunday school for 35 years in Henderson. She worked with the Girl Scouts for many years and volunteered with Maria Parham Hospital and the American Red Cross, of which she served on theBoard of Directors.She was a charter member of the Nosegay Garden Club and active therein as long as she was in Henderson. In 2000 she moved to Wilson to be near her family.While in Wilson she was a member of the Womans Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. In 2014 she moved to Jacksonville to be near family.
Always interested in history, books and travel, she was a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Admired by all her knew her as a kind and compassionate person, she lived an exemplary Christian life. She will be remembered for her intelligence, her natural elegance, gentleness, integrity, and thoughtfulness. She will always be with us in our hearts.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday September 23, 2017 at 2 oclock in the family plot at Elmwood Cemetery in Henderson with the Rev. Dr. Marion D. Lark and the Rev. Douglas E. Murray officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to her caregivers, Janet Owen, Janice Vose, and Ellen Averrill who made her last years comfortable and happy.
