HENDERSON-Grady Thomas Stainback, 88, a resident of the Brookston Community, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on August 30, 1937 in Warren County, he was the son of the late William Atley Stainback and Pearl Mosely Stainback.
Grady was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He was a retired Director of Student Personal Services and Title One programs for the Vance County School System, and was a member of Flat Rock United Methodist Church.
Graveside memorial services will be held Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Flat Rock United Methodist Church Cemetery by Dr. Donald A. Perkinson.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Corbett Stainback of the home; one son, Barron Kentley Stainback of Henderson; one grandson, Benjamin Wilson Stainback and his mother Lydia A. Sullivan of Mooresville; one brother, Robert Wayne “Bobby” Stainback (Peggy) of Franklin, Virginia; his special nephews, Dennis Stainback (LaRose) and their children, Al Stainback (Samantha) and Josh Stainback, Amos McLemore, Jonathan McLemore (Barbara), Danny Stainback, Larry Stainback and Garner Corbett; and his nieces, Connie Boretti, Dr. Amanda Corbett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Josephine Cohen, Gladys Dickerson, Virginia McLemore; four brothers, Wilbert Stainback, Alton Stainback, Maynard Stainback, and Maylon Stainback.
The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
Donations in memory of Grady shall me made to the Flat Rock Cemetery Fund c/o Joan Brame, 4377 Satterwhite Point Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
The family would like to thank their neighbors, Shirley, Jimmy and Terry Allgood, Kevin and Holly Pahl, and Vance Family Medicine, Granville Medical Center, and Kerr Lake Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care.
