ORLANDO, FL.-Harriett (Hatsy) Wearn Thompson Haddock died Friday, November 4, at the age of 99 in Orlando, Florida where she had resided for the past two years.Prior to moving to Orlando, she was a resident of Windsor Point in Fuquay-Varina, NC.A former resident of Henderson, NC, she was born December 12, 1911, in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late John Jamison and Mary Reid Thompson.
Mrs. Haddock graduated from Central High School in Charlotte and subsequently entered Queens College where she was active in various campus activities and a member of Kappa Delta social sorority.After earning a degree in education, she began teaching at Dilworth Elementary School in Charlotte.
In July 1940, she married Ralph C. Haddock, also a teacher in the Charlotte School District, and they made their home in Henderson, NC after Mr. Haddock returned home from World War 11 where he served in the United States Navy.He was a long time employee of Roses Stores.Mrs. Haddock taught at both South Henderson and North Henderson Elementary before retiring.
Mrs. Haddock was active in the San Souci Literary Club and was a charter member of the Rosemont Garden Club.She also served as a volunteer at Maria Parham Hospital for several years.She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and through her teaching and community and church work, she demonstrated her devotion to the service of others.
Mrs. Haddock is predeceased by her husband, Ralph, who died in 2001.She is survived by her son, Ralph (Chip) C. Haddock, Jr. and his wife Gail of Orlando, Florida, son John T. Haddock and his wife, Carolyn of Ivanhoe, Virginia; grandchildren, Kristen Haddock Perry and her husband Christian of Cary, NC, Casey Haddock of Satellite Beach, Florida, Kathryn Haddock of Vilas, NC, John Haddock of Raleigh, NC; and five great grandchildren, Brennan, Taylor, Landry, Gunner and Dillon Perry.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 11:00 am at Sunset Gardens with the Reverend Keith Benze officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the parlor at the First Presbyterian Church.
