HENDERSON – Hedda Magdalena Hartel Harriss, 81, of Peace Street, died October 19, 2024, at a local nursing home. Born March 3, 1943, Tapaiu, East Prussia, (present day Russia), she was the daughter of the late Christel Schauties Hartel and Alfred Hartel. She was a member of First United Methodist Church Henderson. Hedda previously worked at Maria Parham Hospital in the pathology lab and retired from Harriett and Henderson Yarns where she worked as a secretary. She enjoyed knitting and arts and crafts. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of J.M. White Funeral Home by the Rev. George Loveland. Hedda is survived by her husband, Winston Richmond “Rich” Harriss of the home; her daughter, Susan Collins and husband, Joe of Clemmons, NC; three grandchildren, Jessica Powers and husband James, Christopher Collins and wife, Natalie, and Julia Grace Collins; a great-granddaughter, Catherine; a brother-in-law, John Mitchell Harriss and wife, Roberta of Harlem, GA; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Miller of Decatur, GA and numerous nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Heide-Marie Downs. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday, November 2, from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. at J.M. White Funeral Home.
