OXFORD-Helen Hughes Johnson, age 83, a resident of 4282 Tommie Sneed Road, Oxford and a former resident of Henderson, died Monday, August 22, 2011, at Maria Parham Medical Center.Born in Vance County on February 10, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Scott Hughes and Lizzie Mae Jarrell Hughes.Mrs. Johnson was a retired LPN at Maria Parham Medical Center.She was a member of Tabbs Creek Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Sonshine Group.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 7:00 pm at Tabbs Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Ken Compton.
She is survived by two daughters, Geneva J. Davis and Nancy J. Radford of Henderson; one son, Billy Johnson of Oxford; three brothers, Steve Hughes and Howard Hughes of Henderson and Fred Hughes of Richmond, VA; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry T. Johnson; one daughter, Jerry Mae Johnson; and one grandson.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 until 7:00 pm at Tabbs Creek Baptist Church. On Thursday and Friday the family will be at the home of Billy and Rhonda Johnson at 4282 Tommie Sneed Road in the Dickerson Community.
