Henry Howard Buchanan, 92, a resident of Vance County, died Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at his home.Born on May 29, 1925 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Alex Buchanan and Ethel Edwards Buchanan.A career Veteran of the Untied States Navy, he proudly served in both World War II and the Korean War.He was retired from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 2, at 11 am in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Reverend Para Drake.Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens with Military Honors.
He is survived by two daughters, Henrietta Buchanan Sutton (Mike) of Henderson and Sharon Canady (Slugger) of Woodbridge, VA; one daughter-in-law, Beth Jones of Midlothian, VA; five grandchildren, Jacob Sutton, Allison Sutton Hilton, Kelly Spurlin, Nancy Ryan, Amy Langert; eight great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Dunning Buchanan, one son, Herbert Nelson Jones; one daughter, Pam Winters; two sisters, Louise B. Bowen and Lessie B. Renn; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will receive friends at the home.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Jacob Sutton, Blake Hilton, Colton Aiken, Matt Renn, Will Aiken, and Jordan Abbott.
