Henry Calvin Medlin, age 84, a former resident of 621 S. Cooper Drive, died Wednesday, February 02, 2011, in a local nursing home. Born on September 26, 1926 in Durham, NC, he was the son of the late P.W. Medlin and Lilly Frances Harper Medlin.He was a veteran of the United States Army and the United States Navy having served in World War II.He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, where he volunteered and drove the van for many years.As a volunteer with the DAV, he was awarded several awards.In1987 he was awarded the Francis J. Beaton Award for outstanding membership recruitment and in 1998 he was given the award for distinguished service.He was a former police officer in Durham and security guard for Durham Technical Institute.Mr. Medlin was a member of West End Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:00 PM in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ralph McGowan.Entombment with Military Honors will follow at Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Constance McIver Medlin of Henderson; three step-daughters, Diane Dennis and husband Bill, Carol Pulley and husband W.T., all of Henderson, and Sharon McInnis of Shelby; a step-son Tim Long and wife Lisa, of Henderson; twelve grandchildren, Meredith Hodges and husband Randy, Mack Dennis and wife Erin, Steven Dennis, Will Pulley, Meghan McInnis, Rachel McInnis, Scott Dennis, Glenn Long, Peter McInnis, Zachary McInnis, Kristin Long, and Austin McInnis; two great-grandchildren, Skylar Hodges and Palmer Hodges; and two cousins, Imogene Hastings of Pueblo Colorado, and Hazel Nix of Danville, VA.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday from 12:30 PM till 2:00 PM at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home of Diane and Bill Dennis, 408 Beechwood Trail, Henderson and W.T. and Carol Pulley, 68 Kings Court, Henderson.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Durham Co. Disabled American Veterans Chapter #21, P.O. Box 216 Durham NC 27702
