Mr. Herbert Neal Clayton, 73, a resident of 555 Forest Hills Drive, died Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Maria Parham Medical Center.Born in Caswell County, he was the son of the late Herbert Victor Clayton and Ruth Brooks Clayton.
Mr. Clayton served in the National Guard.He was retired from Americal Corporation as Purchasing Agent after 27 years of service.
Mr. Clayton was a member of South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church where funeral services will be held Friday at 3:00 pm by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.Burial will follow at New Bethel Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday from 1:30 until 3:00 pm at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Abbott Clayton of the home; three sons, Timothy Neal Clayton and wife, Melissa of Morehead City, Anthony Scott Clayton and wife, Ashley of Garner, Colton Lance Cottrell and wife, Shannon of Oxford; two beloved grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Chandler Keith Clayton of Clayton, and Skylar Elaine Cottrell of Oxford; Chandlers mother ,Melissa Anne Clayton of Clayton; three sisters, Louise Clayton Allen of Durham, Aleine Clayton Smith of Rockwell, Jean Clayton Wilson and husband, Billy of Burlington; and a brother, Michael Thomas Clayton and wife, Pat of Prospect Hill.He was predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Roy Smith and Carl Allen, Jr.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Morris Batten, Ludie Creech, Ray Liles, Tommy Mustian, Marty Pulley, Larry Silver, Donald Matthews, and James Pendergrass.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church, 905 Americal Road, Henderson, NC27537.
