HENDERSON- Herman Atwood Davis, Jr., 88, of Henderson, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2025. Born February 27, 1937 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Herman Atwood Davis, Sr. and Sara Alston Burwell Davis and was the widower of Mary Ann Crews Davis. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Henderson where he served as Sunday school teacher, Deacon and Elder. He was on the founding board of Vance Academy (now known as Kerr Vance Academy) and was a member of the Masons, Shriners, and Kiwanis Clubs. He served two terms in the 1970’s on the Henderson City Council and sat on numerous bank boards. His greatest business accomplishment was building from the ground up, Senior Citizens Home on Ruin Creek Road, which served the elderly population of Vance and surrounding counties from February 1969 until July 2023, when he sold the nursing home business that he ran for 54 years. He also built and operated the Woodlawn Retirement Home on Ruin Creek Road from 1987 to 2020. That building is currently being occupied by Little Paws Daycare. A private graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Henderson conducted by Reverend Bruce Beck and Reverend George Williams. He is survived by two daughters, Sara Anne Davis of Oxford; Suzanne Davis Duncan (Kyle) of Sarasota, Florida; a son, Herman A. “Woody” Davis, III (Valerie) of Henderson, a grandson, Robert E. Bowen, Jr (Samantha) of Oxford; and two great granddaughters, Adalyn Grace Bowen and Eva Williamson of Oxford; and a niece, Patsy Davis Ellis of Henderson. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a half-brother, Lawrence Davis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Music Fund P.O.
