RALEIGH – Hilton Wayne Journegan, 77, of Raleigh, passed away unexpectedly on November 24, 2025. Born February 10, 1948 in Henderson, he was the son of the late Hilton Journegan and Myrtle Journegan White.
On March 5, 1969 he married the late Beverly Fuller. Wayne was a devoted husband throughout their 54 years together and became her dedicated caregiver in her later years as she battled dementia. Their life together was centered on family, shared traditions, and the joy they found in raising their daughters. Wayne often said that nothing mattered more to him than being there for his family, and he lived that out fully as a son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was immensely proud of his family and loved playing golf - though, in true Wayne fashion, he was stubbornly determined never to move up to the senior tees.
Wayne enjoyed a distinguished career for 45 years at the YMCA of the Triangle, where he served in roles including Membership Director, Director of Operations, and Vice President of Risk Management and Facilities. He was a long-time member of the Raleigh Jaycees, the Lions Club, the Stag Club, and recently joined the St. Andrew’s Society. Among all of his activities, his weekly Rawhide poker nights were his favorite tradition and a constant source of friendship and fun. In recent years, he was involved with Open Door Church.
The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, November 29, 2025 from 11:45am until 12:45pm followed by a celebration of life service at 1pm at Open Door Church, 9801 Durant Rd, Raleigh, NC 27614 with Pastor Eric Dillon officiating. Burial will follow at 3pm at Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Henderson.
In addition to his daughters, Jennifer Langston (Kevin) and Kristi Penny (Brad), Wayne is survived by his grandchildren, Courtney (Ronnie) and Matthew, and his great-grandchildren, Hudson and Andrew.
Wayne will be remembered for his loyalty, generous spirit, and deep love for his family. His presence, humor, and steady kindness will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His family finds comfort in knowing he is in Heaven reunited with his mother, father, and wife.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Lion’s Club of Wake County (North Raleigh), 11617 Six Forks Rd. Raleigh NC, 27614 or online at Lions Club online donations.
