Horace Vernon Pendergrass, Jr.

HENDERSON- Horace Vernon Pendergrass, Jr., 74, of N. Lynnbank Road, died Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Duke Medical Center. Born May 13, 1951 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Hilda Brown Pendergrass and Horace Vernon Pendergrass, Sr. and was the widower of Gayle Harp Pendergrass. He was a retired truck driver and member of Fuller Chapel Christian Church.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Fuller Chapel Christian Church by Rev. Tammy Ayscue. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Vernon is survived by his daughter, Kelley P. Abbott and husband, Kevin of Henderson; two sons, Christopher V. Pendergrass and wife, Lisa of Fuquay Varina; and Keith E. Pendergrass of Goldsboro; four grandchildren, Christopher V. Pendergrass, II, Connor S. Pendergrass, Amelia Gayle Pendgergrass, and Chase R. Pendergrass; a step-grandson, Peyton Abbott; his sister, Vera P. Jones and husband, Mike of Henderson; and two brothers, Sidney “Bony” Pendergrass and wife, Sandy of Hoboken, GA, and David Pendergrass, Sr. and wife, Betsy of Henderson.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Pendergrass, Donald Gregory Pendergrass and Scott Pendergrass.

The family will receive friends following the service at Fuller Chapel and also at his home.
