RALEIGH- Howard V. (Butch) Harrell, Jr. P.E.January 26, 1944-May 3, 2015
Son of the late Howard V. Harrell, Sr. and Lillian J. Harrell of Oxford, NC.
Early education at Oxford City schools. He was a graduate of Louisburg Methodist College and held a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from N.C. State University. He worked with CP&L as a Southern Division Engineer in SC for 17 years. Later he worked in the Raleigh home office and power management positions in Asheville, NC and Wilmington, NC. He was retired from Progress Energy and Siemens Corp. Power Division. At present he was Senior Project Engineer with Power Services, Inc. of Raleigh.
During his life he was a Certified United Methodist Lay Speaker, Delegate to UMC Annual Conference in both NC & SC, and a certified Parliamentarian.He was Past Master of Hiram 40 Masonic Lodge, Raleigh, a Scottish Rite Freemason, a member of Omar Shrine of SC, past member of Omar Provost Guard and a member of Wake Co Shrine Club.He was Treasurer and Past Royal Patron of Dogwood CT No. 11, Order of the Amaranth.Howard worked hard to support the Crippled and Burned Shrine Hospitals, The Masonic Home for Children, Oxford, NC and The Amaranthine Diabetic Research Fund.He loved God, was a devoted family man, and was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn; and sister Judith H. Currin of Staley, NC; son Howard (Trey) HarrellIII of Oxford, NC; daughter-in-law Dara R. Harrell; daughter Amy M. Harrell of Mouth Pleasant, SC; grandsons Howard (Vance) Harrell IV, Jason B. Harrell, Stephen Wesley Harrell, and David Longworth; and granddaughter Lillian M. Harrell.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at J.M. White Funeral Home, 60 Zeb Robinson Rd., Henderson, NC at 3:00 PM.Interment following funeral will be at Nut Bush Presbyterian Church, Townsville, NC off Hwy 39N.
Family Visitation will be immediately following in the Church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to one of the above charities.
