HENDERSON- Irene Mangum White, 95, died peacefully September 3, 2023 at Henderson Nursing and Senior Living Center. Born May 27, 1928 in Granville County, she was the daughter of the late John Bert Mangum and Emma Arrington Mangum. Mrs. White was a retired employee of Americal Corporation. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, and the Adult Sunday School Class in Henderson for over 40 years. She was a member of the Koinonia Prayer Group and the Flat Rock United Methodist Church Joy Club Lunch Bunch. She was known for her love of life and her gift of prayer, constantly praying for those in need. She was an excellent cook and was famous for her chocolate and sweet potato pies which she shared often. Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, September 18,2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Flat Rock United Methodist Church by Rev. Robin Farner. She is survived by her daughter, Pat White Hodge (Dennis) of Henderson; three grandchildren, Christal Mangum of Vanceboro (Nicole), London Hodge Turner (Bryan) of Durham, and Heather Ruth Hodge of Henderson; and six great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, William Lee White; three children, Katherine Dyane Gill, Milton Allen Mangum and William Lee White, Jr.; one grandchild, John Allen Mangum; three sisters, Doris Mangum Daniel, Lola Mangum Reaves, Maryann Mangum Cook; four brothers, William Calvin Mangum, Grady Lee Mangum, John Bert Mangum and James Herbert Mangum and a very dear friend, Clyde Wright Pernell. The family will receive friends at the home of Dennis and Pat Hodge and prior to the service on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. in the fellowship hall of Flat Rock United Methodist Church.
