HENDERSON-James Theodore “Dinky” Abbott, Sr., age 84, a resident of Hicksboro Road, died Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Granville Medical Center. Born on May 2, 1937 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Edward James Abbott and Jessie Bledsoe Abbott. James was a graduate of Zeb Vance High School. He was formerly employed with Laurens Glass Co. for 29 years. He opened the A & P True Value Hardware of Henderson in 1986 where he was the owner and operator until his retirement in 2010. He was a member of Marrow’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Graveside funeral services will be held Monday at 3:00 PM at Marrow’s Chapel United Methodist Church by Pastor Diana Bobbitt and the Rev. Johnny Yount. He is survived by his wife, Mary Clifford Abbott of the home; one daughter, Angela A. Norwood (Danny) of Oxford; one son, James “Jay” Abbott, Jr. (Sheila) of Port Republic, Maryland; grandchildren, Beth Haithcock (Chad), Amanda Williams (Jerol), Jocelyn Abbott, and Ethan Abbott; great grandchildren, Austin Haithcock, Avery Haithcock, and Zack Williams; and one sister, Peggy White (John Richard) of Fayetteville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Stanley and Nancy Thomas; and his brothers, Clifton “Skeet” Abbott and Jack Abbott. The family will receive friends following the service on Monday at Marrow’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
