James Richard Blackmon

James Richard Boots Blackmon, age 77, a resident of 2365 Ross Mill Road, died October 9, 2010 at a local nursing home. Born on May 22, 1933 in Vance Co. he was the son of the late Walter Baxter Blackmon and Maddie Pollard Blackmon. He was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps serving during the Korean War and was retired from Pepsi Cola as a warehouse manager. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon. He was also a member of the D.A.V.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 pm at Victory Baptist Church by Rev. Ricky Easter. Burial will follow at Sunset Gardens Cemetery with military honors.
He is survived by his wife Alice Ayscue Blackmon; one daughter Darlene B. Lassiter and husband Jimmy of Henderson.He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by three brothers Walter Earl Blackmon, T.G. Blackmon and Lonnie Smokey Blackmon.
Serving as active pall bearers will be James Edwards, Allen Champion, Gerald Blackmon,Mark Lassiter, Raymond Abbott, Gilbert Hedgepeth, Chuck Strother, Ricky Pendergrass, C.T. Overton and Billy Overton. Serving as honorary pall bearers will be the Victory Baptist Church Adult Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends Monday night from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at J.M. White Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home.
