HENDERSON- James Benjamin Boyd, 80, of Stewart Farm Road, died Friday, May 7, 2021 at Duke University Medical Center.Born in Granville County on March 26, 1941, he was the son of the late Woodrow Wilson Boyd and Annie Bell Overton Boyd.He was formerly employed with Roses Warehouse as a dispatcher.After working at Roses, he became a self-employed carpenter specializing in home improvement.James was a member of Carey Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 40 years, sang in the choir and was a former deacon.He enjoyed playing the guitar and spending time in his yard and garden.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at Sunset Gardens by Rev. Matt Cowan.
James is survived by his wife, Barbara Adcock Boyd of the home; a son, James Christopher "Chris" Boyd and wife, Tracy of Henderson; a daughter, Audrey Boyd Taylor and husband, Jonathan of Henderson; seven grandchildren, Meredith Boyd, Lauren Taylor, Haven Taylor, Addison Boyd, Madison Boyd, Brandon Medlin and Courtney Adcox; three brothers, Pete Boyd and wife, Rose of Bahama, Frank Boyd and wife, Diane of Butner and Roy Boyd and wife, Elizabeth of Fairport; and a sister, Sharon Boyd of Oxford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Boyd and Woodrow Boyd, Jr.
The family will receive friends following the service at Sunset Gardens and at other times at the home.
