GREENVILLE – Mr. James Edward Critcher, Sr., 92, of Chapel Hill, died Thursday, September 21, 2022 at his daughter’s home. Born February 6, 1930 in Granville County, he was the son of the late Annie Leigh Eakes Critcher and Walter Meadows Critcher. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He attended Campbell College and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a Batchelor’s of Arts degree in Journalism. He retired from the Chapel Hill Newspaper, later N&O, from Advertising at age 70. He loved the outdoors, plants, ballroom dancing, snow skiing, hiking the Grand Canyon and traveling Europe and beyond multiple times with his wife. Visitation will be at J.M. White Funeral Home on Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM for family and friends. A graveside funeral service will follow on Thursday at 1:30pm, in the Enon Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Steve Brown. Mr. Critcher is survived by one son, James E. Critcher, Jr.; one daughter, Linda Critcher Kindell and husband Tad Kindell; grandchildren, Elizabeth Baker Pegg and husband John Steven Pegg, James E. Critcher III, Dean Allen Critcher, Kameron Leigh Critcher; great grandchildren Jack Henry Pegg and Lily Harper Pegg; and a brother, Howard Taylor Critcher and wife Joyce. He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Cheatham Critcher, his sister Annie Doris Critcher, and brothers, Walter Meadows Critcher, Jr., Robert Macon Critcher and Dan Calvin Critcher.
