HENDERSON-James Maynard Garrett, Sr., age 61, a resident of 1134 Poplar Creek Road, died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.Born on March 17, 1952 in Person County, he was the son of the late John Calvin Garrett and Julie Ann Frazier Garrett.He was a self-employed clock maker and was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 3 pm at Blessed Hope Baptist Church by Dr. Donald A. Perkinson.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Newton Garrett of the home; one daughter, Jennifer Michelle Garrett of Oxford; three sons, James Maynard Garrett, Jr. and wife Melissa of Oxford, Jonathan Wayne Garrett and wife Kelley of Stovall, and Joshua Michael Garrett of Dover, NC; one brother, Calvin Thomas Garrett of Henderson; one sister, Shirley Ann Jones of Bearpond; four grandchildren, Jonathan Greene, Hannah Garrett, Levi Garrett, Skylar Garrett; and four special friends, Karen and Donald White, Dad Foy Newton, and Alton Howard.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Jamie Starr Garrett; and two sisters, Mary Ann Dement and Brenda Ann Floyd.
The family will receive friends on Sunday immediately following the service at Blessed Hope Baptist Church.At other times they will be at the home on Poplar Creek Road.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
