James Richard Harris, Jr.

- Mr. James Richard Harris, Jr. age 87, a resident of 1245 Park Ave, died Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at a local nursing home.Born in Craven County on September 22, 1929, he was the son of the late Betty Berry Harris and James Richard Harris, Sr.Mr. Harris was a member of Rock Spring Baptist Church.He served in the National Guard and was a past president of the Gorman Ruritan Club.He was retired from American Tobacco Company where he worked as a supervisor.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of J.M. White Funeral Home by Rev. Gary Brummitt.Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham.
Mr. Harris is survived by two sons, Randy Harris and wife Angie of Wilmington and Danny Harris and wife Debbie of Durham; a daughter, Tammy Greguire and husband Brad of Clarksville, VA; two sisters, Doris Clarke and Lillian; several grandchildren; several great-grand children; and a great-great grandson; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-nine years, Maxine Blalock Harris and most recently by his second wife, Betty W. Harris.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from noon until 1:00 PM at J. M. White Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Harris, Cameron Harris, Josh Greguire, Derek Lingle, Garret Lingle, Chris Harris, Brandon Harris and Don Poling.
The family would like to thank the special care staff at Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehab for the care of our Dad during the past two years.
