James Willoughbye Hicks, Jr.

HENDERSON- James Willoughbye Hicks, Jr., 65, of Rook Street, died Monday, December 20, 2021 at his home. Born in Vance County on March 9, 1956, he was the son of the late James Willoughbye Hicks, Sr. and Peggy May Hicks. He was a member of First United Methodist Church Henderson, and a member of Henderson Masonic Lodge 229 and Tri-County Shrine Club. He was a retired Captain of the N.C. Department of Corrections. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 27, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Westwood Pentecostal Holiness Church by Pastor Daniel R. Blasky. James is survived by his wife, Denise Rials Hicks of the home; a son, James Willoughbye “Jim” Hicks, III and wife, Heather of Henderson; two step sons, Joseph Allen Overby of Virgilina and Jeremy Allen Overby of Virgilina; a step-daughter, Jessica Lauren Barrett and husband, Daniel of Abingdon, VA; eleven grandchildren, Zackary, Will, Makenzie, Wesley, Brittany, Jacob, Justin, Jaylen, Jenna, Charlotte and Wyatt; one great-grandchild, Jaicee; a sister, Rebecca Brooks of Kittrell and a brother, Michael Hicks of Stuarts Draft, VA. The family will receive friends following the service on Monday at the church.
