James "Jimmy" Thomas Ellington

HENDERSON- James Thomas "Jimmy" Ellington, 83, of Stewart Farm Road, died Thursday, April 23, 2020 at his home.Born in Vance County on November 15, 1936, he was the son of the late James Andrew Ellington and Alma Vaughan Ellington. Jimmy set goals and once he made a decision, he never thought about changing direction, but gave his all to accomplish them. As a young man, he was also a gifted athlete and excelled in basketball.Jimmy was the founder and owner of E&E Farm Equipment Company and developer of his family farming operations. He taught his children that "the dictionary is the only place that you will find success before work."

He was a member of Carey Baptist Church.Jimmy was also a generous and caring man - always willing to help others whether they were his customers, neighbors, friends, community members or family.He often ended many conversations with "let me know if I can help you in any way."

Jimmy is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Patricia Abbott Ellington of the home; a son, Barry Todd Ellington (Sheri) of Cary; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Allen Ellington; two brothers, Clifton "Binky" Ellington and Wayne Ellington (Linda) of Henderson; four sisters, Felcie Short (Wilton), Mary Frances Harris, Betty Lou Peoples (Donald) all of Henderson, and Carolyn Perdue of Virginia; five grandchildren, Brian Andrew Ellington (April), Tyler Vaughan Ellington (Olivia), Cody Jackson Ellington, Seth Monroe Ellington, and Maret Elizabeth Ellington; and three great-grandchildren, Addison Rae Ellington, Aubrey James Ellington, and James David Ellington.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Thomas "Tommy" Ellington, Jr.; a brother, Mike Ellington; and a great grandson, Andrew Thomas Ellington.

Private services will be held at Carey Baptist Church Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to ACTS (Area Christians Together in Service), PO Box 25, Henderson, NC 27536.
