OXFORD- James Allen "Jimmy" Hester, Jr., 72, of Fairport Road, died Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the Durham VA Hospital.Born in Vance County on October 1, 1948, he was the son of the late James Allen Hester, Sr. and Pauline Daniel Hester.He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam.He retired from UPS after working 30 years as a delivery driver and was of the Baptist faith.Jimmy loved being outside, tinkering with automobiles and lawnmowers, and racing.He also enjoyed football and was an avid Redskins fan.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM in the chapel of J.M. White Funeral Home by Rev. Will Breedlove.Entombment with military honors will follow at Sunset Gardens.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Sharon Carliles Hester of the home; a daughter, Jamie Hester Harris and husband, Brandon of Oxford, two sons, Michael James "Mickey" Hester and wife, Tonya and Dwayne Allen Hester and wife, Tracey, all of Oxford; four grandchildren, Zachary Chase Hester, Haley Lynn Hester, Jason Allen Hester and Katie Rose Harris; four sisters, Carolyn Watkins and husband, Billy of Henderson, Helen Pendergrass and husband, Bobby of Henderson, Barbara Nelson of Henderson, and Brenda Richardson of Oxford; and one brother, William Thomas "Tommy" Hester and wife, Myra of Henderson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Hester.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at J.M. White Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Attendees at the visitation and service are asked to wear appropriate face coverings and practice social distancing.
