HENDERSON-James Rubin J R. Penny, age 71,a resident of 171 Parrott Road, died Friday, February 13, 2015, at his home.Born in Halifax County on June 6, 1943, he was the son of the late Rubin Penny and Carrie Stanley Penny.He was a retired salesman from Rose Oil Company and was currently working part-time at Car Quest.J. R. was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church and the Adult Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 3:00 pm at Blessed Hope Baptist Church by Dr. Donald A. Perkinson.Burial will follow in New Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne Currin Penny of the home; one daughter, Susan Penny Elliott of Henderson; one son, Todd Penny (Stacey) of Henderson; two sisters, Jerry P. Loving of Creedmoor and Geral P. Pergerson of Henderson; two brothers, Earl Penny of Henderson and Larry Penny of Smithfield; four grandchildren, Brandon Elliott (Jainee), Lauren Elliott, Dustin Penny, and Megan Penny; and two great grandchildren, Jordan Elliott and Ryan Elliott.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Nancy P. Eason.
The family will receive friends Monday prior to the service from 1:30 until 3 pm at Blessed Hope Baptist Church.At other times they will be at the home at 171 Parrott Road.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Charles Garrett, Danny Thomas, Woody Parrish, Jerry Matthews, Scott Greenway, and Dan Thomas, Jr
