James "Spooky" Hartwick Roberson

HENDERSON-James Hartwick "Spooky" Roberson, 85, a resident of 575 Franklin Lane died on Monday, April 23, 2019, at the Durham VA Hospital. Born in Vance County on December 13, 1933, he was the son of the late Melvin Dorsey Roberson and Lillie Estelle Smith Roberson."Spooky" proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, and was self-employed in residential construction.He was a member of North Henderson Baptist Church.
Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held Thursday at 2 pm at Sunset Gardens by the Rev. Brent Kasey.Entombment will follow in Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances McDaniel Roberson of the home; three daughters, Beverly R. Evans, Audrey E. Roberson, and Priscilla R. Davis all of Henderson; three brothers, Andrew Dorsey Roberson of Warrenton, Benjamin Harold Roberson of Fallston, Maryland, and Steve Harper Roberson of Richmond, Virginia; eight grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Katie Estelle R. Jenkins; one brother, Vance Eugene Roberson; and his brother-in-law, Billy Gray McDaniel.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Sunset Gardens and at other times at the home.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, J-Me Vaughan, Jason Vaughan, Daniel Horton, Nicholas Horton, Brandon Davis, Jamie Vaughan, Jr., and Josh Vaughan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Henderson Baptist Church, 12ll N. Garnett Street, Henderson, NC27536.
