HENDERSON – Jane Elizabeth Crews Meekins, 93, of Lakeview Drive died Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Born January 27, 1931, in Forsyth County, she was the daughter of the late Lena Josephine Mock Crews and Charles Alexander Dewey Crews. Jane was a graduate of High Point College and later earned a master’s degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. She and her husband, the late David E. Meekins, moved to Henderson in 1956 to become part of the first faculty of E.M. Rollins School. During a career that spanned 38 years with the Vance County School System, Jane served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, junior-high supervisor, and testing coordinator. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Alpha Delta Kappa teachers’ sorority, and the Sans Souci Literary Club. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church by the Rev. George Loveland. Surviving are two daughters, Jo Ellen M. Nowell and husband Tommy of Henderson, and Jane M. Lucas and husband Guy of High Point; two grandchildren, Matthew Nowell and Tyler Nowell; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, James P. Crews of Charlotte and Robert J. Crews of Boca Raton, FL. Jane’s family wishes to thank all of her caregivers for their love, support, and excellent care: Mary Burwell, Pattie Burwell, Shirlina Burwell, Judy Johnson, Earl Jean Lloyd, Deborah Owens, and Stacy Wimbush. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at J.M. White Funeral Home, 60 Zeb Robinson Road, Henderson, NC 27536. They will also receive friends immediately following the service on Saturday in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church. At other times the family will be at the home of Tommy and Jo Ellen Nowell, 126 Lakeview Drive, Henderson, NC 27536.
