Jasper Eugene Strum

NORLINA-Jasper Eugene "Gene" Strum, age 69, a resident of 204 Warrenton Street, died Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Duke University Medical Center.Born on July 27, 1942 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Raymond Vinson Strum and Mildred Jones Strum.Mr. Strum was a Veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1964 until 1968 in the Vietnam War.He was retired from Harriett & Henderson Yarns, Inc. and Glen Raven Mills, and worked part-time at Revlon.Mr. Strum was a member of Norlina United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 pm at Norlina United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jim Bailey and the Rev. Rod Mullen.Burial will follow in Warrendale Cemetery in Norlina.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Tunstall Strum of the home; one daughter, Melissa Strum Gill and husband, Bryant of Cokesbury; Michael Eugene Strum and fiancee, Chris Maynard of Henderson; one brother, Raymond Vinson Bob Strum, Jr. and wife, Shirley of Charlotte; and two sisters, Joyce Strum Garrett of Clarksville and Linda Strum Miltz and husband, Fred of Charlotte.He was preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Strum Tucker.
The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7:00 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home in Norlina.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Gregory Fuller, C. E. Harper, Jonathan Smiley, Scott Matthews, Bobby Powell, P.G. Vaughan, Travis Floyd,Tony Powell and Pete Pegram.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Norlina United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 356, Norlina, NC27563.
