HENDERSON- Jean Fletcher Fields, 92, of Henderson passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026 at Maria Parham Health after a brief illness. Born April 29, 1933 in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Jones and Frances Neathery Jones Pinnell and the widow of Kenneth Fields.
Jean was a devoted member of First Baptist Church. Growing up as an only child, Jean developed a burning desire to have a large family. She more than achieved her family dream with four children. Her early adult life was spent as a homemaker and mother, enjoying various activities with her family. She taught her children how to play Rook and Canasta, playing cards with them frequently. During the summers it was camping, swimming, and water skiing every weekend. She attended all of their games, dance recitals, and school activities. She taught her children that when you love someone, the greatest gift you can give them is your time. Jean earned a diploma from Henderson Business College and LPN from Vance-Granville Community College. She worked in local nursing homes and enjoyed caring for the elderly. As an empty nester, Jean enjoyed her church group, playing cards with friends, her Bojangles group, water aerobics at the Y, and was an avid tennis player. She loved to dance and spent many years square dancing. Jean attended local dances every week and would pick up her father, in his nineties at that time, and take him with her. It was his favorite thing to do. She also volunteered and served as the Senior Center Leader of the Vance Violets. Jean was wide open, a doer and a goer, and constantly on the move. She finally slowed down in the last few years, becoming a master at jigsaw puzzles. The family thanks the many members of First Baptist Church who visited and sent cards in her last years. Your time and thoughtfulness made her so happy. Jean lived a full and wonderful life. She loved her church and her family and will be missed so much.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 9, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church Henderson by Dr. Ron S. Cava. A private burial with the family will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
Jean is survived by two sons, Jan Fletcher (Linda) and Gary Fletcher (Janice), both of Henderson, a daughter, Sharon Fletcher Dixon (Spike-deceased) of Wilmington; ten grandchildren, Susan Fletcher McColl (James), Frances Fletcher Wyland (Jeremy), Watt Dixon, Fletcher Dixon (Michelle), Scott Dixon, Amanda Fletcher Pelkey (Joshua), Blake Fletcher, Stuart Fletcher, Garrett Fletcher, Wesley Fletcher; and nine great-grandchildren, Katie Dixon Stokes (Logan), Dayton Dixon, Will Dixon, Emory “Mo” Powell, Norah Powell, Morgan McColl, David McColl, Lillian “Lilly” Wyland, and Lincoln Wyland.
In addition to her parents and second husband, she was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Floyd Fletcher, her beloved son, Steve Fletcher, cherished son-in-law, Spike Dixon, and treasured companion and friend, Arthur Hilliard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Watt Dixon, Fletcher Dixon, Dayton Dixon, Blake Fletcher, Stuart Fletcher, and David McColl.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Monday from 1:00 PM until 1:50 PM at First Baptist Church in the fellowship hall. Viewing will be in the sanctuary prior to the service.
