OXFORD- Mrs. Anna Jean Stark Grimes, age 65, a resident of 2450 Burnside Road, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at her home.Born in Wake County on August 26, 1952, Jean was a member or the Oxford Orphanage family and graduated from John Nichols High School in Oxford in 1971.She retired from Tioga County, NY where she worked as an advocate for people with disabilities in Nichols Township and surrounding counties.Jean was very instrumental in the passing of the American Disabilities Act at which time she was invited to The White House for its signing.She fought for the disabled, homeless and disenfranchised.
A celebration of Jeans life will be held at her home on Saturday, October 28th, at 2 pm and later next week in NY.
She is survived by her husband, Marion Eugene Gene Grimes, of the home; her daughter, Margot Stark Choi (Brian) of London, England; her step-daughter, Erin Grimes of Epsom; her step-son, Jeremy Grimes of the home; three sisters, Sandie Earp of Wake Forest, Mary Miriam VanCamp of Henderson and Suzy Hinson of Louisburg; two grandchildren, Theodore Choi and Arthur Choi; two step-grandchildren, Julian Jimerson and Savanna Jimerson; her Oxford Orphanage brothers and sisters; and many nieces and nephews who loved and adored her.
Jean was preceded in death by a husband, Glen Stark.
