After a brief illness, our treasured matriarch, Addie Jeanette Faulkner Poythress, 98, entered her eternal home on Sunday, May 15, 2022. She was surrounded by her family at her home. Born on April 23, 1924 in Henderson, she was the daughter of the late J. G. Faulkner and Addie Newman Faulkner, and was the widow of Ernest F. Poythress, Jr. When Jeanette was younger, she enjoyed spending time with her three siblings, working in her family’s grocery store, and excelling in school. Jeanette attended Henderson High School and graduated at the top of her class. She didn’t recall thinking too much when she was a child about what career she would pursue. After graduating, she went to work as a telephone operator before becoming a very talented seamstress and devoted stay-at-home mother. In January of 1947, Jeanette married Ernest Foster Poythress, Jr. a match truly made in Heaven. Jeanette and Ernest went on to have three children, Tony Neil, Jan Elizabeth (McGhee) and Annette (Bridges). Jeanette was a loyal servant to God, first and foremost. She loved the church and loved sharing the love of our Savior, Jesus Christ, with as many people as possible. Jeanette sang in the choir for many years and served as a deacon while participating as an avid member of West End Baptist Church for numerous years. She deeply loved her family, her church family, and the Lord. Jeanette loved to spend time with her family and prayed with all her might that we would all be together to celebrate her 98th birthday; God answered that prayer and her heart was so full on that day just three weeks ago. A private burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 followed by a memorial service at 4:00 pm at West End Baptist Church conducted by Bob Flowers and Jerry Ayscue. She is survived by her daughters, Jan McGhee of Wake Forest and Annette Bridges of Henderson; her grandchildren, Addie Armstrong, Nathan Walker (Andrea), and Foster Bridges, four great-grandchildren, Lily, Camden, Sebestain, and Samantha; and numerous extended family members and loved ones. In addition to her parents and her one true love, Ernest, she was preceded in death by her son, Tony; a sister, Edna F. Barnett; and two brothers, Dwight Elmo Faulkner and Randolph Faulkner. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at West End Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to West End Baptist Church, 619 Dabney Drive, ATTN: Pure Water or Pure Life. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to Kindred Hospice and a special caregiver and friend, Jackie Williams.
